Access to Union Theological Seminary’s Burke Library

Thanks to a reciprocal use agreement, GTS students are able to check out materials from the Burke Library at Union Theological Seminary/Columbia University.

Registering at the Burke Library
Be sure to have your GTS ID and materials that reflect your current enrollment at the seminary, such as a current financial statement or tuition invoice, as proof of enrollment.

Next, take the 1 train uptown to 116th Street and find Columbia University’s Butler Library (“G” on mapDirections & Hours).

Go to the Library Information Office, ask to register as a patron of the Burke Library, and pay $20 (check or charge) for a Columbia ID card (good for one year).

Important Notes

  • *Always check the operating hours for the Library Information Office and for the Burke Library.
  • Some of Burke’s holdings are stored offsite. Once you have Columbia library access, you will be able to request these materials in advance of your visit, but this process usually takes around one business day.
  • Circulating materials can be borrowed for up to 28 days. Overdue fines and lost book charges are the responsibility of the patron.

The Christoph Keller, Jr. Library building is closed.

The library's physical collections are not available to patrons, as GTS transitions to future uses of this space.
